License plate reads “TNKCMDR” is parked in the Veteran spot.

I still kinda dig the pickup version of this and the H3.
There. I said it. Out loud.

Nows about the right time to dig the H1s out of storage

I think Hummer shaming is over. besides I don’t think you could every REALLY shame the H1. You could laugh at the buyer spending crazy money to go deaf slowly and with great discomfort, but always respect.

I’m a fan of the H3t. I’d gladly replace my Silverado with an H3t Alpha.
The H1 gets a lot of hate, but at least it was a capable vehicle.

I have a buddy up in Ski Country with one he drives to the lifts every winter morning. It’s slow, it’s wide, it’s stupid. And, he loves it.
Even after a very expensive 4L80 repair/ swap he’s all H1.
I find myself yearning for a H3T with the 5-cylinder, which is an awesome engine. A superb engine.

Today: not a veteran. Bonus Hellcat w/ crazy graphic.

boo to the I5. It the I6 was a good engine, but the whole “oops, guess it doesn’t fit, better lopp off a cylinder” is so GM it hurts.

Im glad he’s feeding the intercooler the heat from his lightbars.

Form before function in a Humvee?
Edit: and notice how much that isn't a parking space. It is the turnoff for an alley.

Oh yeah a quick zoom in would have told both us that. Now I feel silly, since I actually saw it.

I’ve got one in an FJ80. The engine noise is awesome. It fits in an FJ80 much better than an LL8. It’s substantially lighter. A nd the fuel economy is about 40% better than the “3 F” that was in there.
So there’s actually a lot to like about it. The 250HP (tuned) makes it a rocketship compared to the original 3FE. Especially with a net 400 pound weight reduction.
Oddly, most of the 5-cyls of the last 30 years (Volvo, VR5, Atlas) ended up being pretty interesting engines. I’ve put both LLRs and LL8s in Cruisers and it’s shocking how much better the I5 fits. The shorter crank also yields a higher redline (due to a crank resonance issue in the LL8... BMW had to fight that effect too), oddly enough, so we raised the redline to 7K. Fuel cutoff in the LL8 is still 6300.
YMMV but the Atlas 5 is a pretty sweet motor.
They didn’t actually “lop off” a cylinder BTW. The whole family was designed for a high level of compatibility in a 4, 5 and 6 cylinder range with lots of parts interchange. It’s actually kind of cool.

That’ s interesting to hear. I didn’t realize you could get 7k out of those motors. i realize they didn’t lopp of a cylinder, just hyperbole . mostly I’ m mad they made a hi po I6 and used it in one crappy car. what transmission and t-case do you use behind the i5 in the 80?

Yep, the crank resonance was a real issue on the I-6, just based on “huge bore” and very long crank. The I-5 really sings up to redline.
The first time I got in the FJ80 with the LLR motor in it my reaction was “holy smokes, this truck feels 1000 pounds lighter”. My stock “commuting” to do my stuff with the 3FE in it was “200 miles until the yellow Low Fuel Light comes on”. With the LLR that went to “290-300 miles until the Low Fuel Light comes on”.
Transmission is a stock 4L60E mated to the Advanced Adapters “kit” to use the stock TLC transfer cases. In retrospect this is a weak point— Advance wanted you to use a 2WD 4L60, and trim the shaft. There would be better solutions today.
However, doing this retains full locker compatibility (the LL8 truck has full lockers).
Dealing with the pan is a real pain on the LL8... everybody wants to love that motor, but the reality is that the LLR (with different pan configuration and shorter block) just drops sweetly into place. The MA5 mates right up... which would be killer in an FJ40 or 60 for a manual.
I’ve been meaning to post you a LL8 video. I’m heading back to that shop over the weekend so will do a quick vid next week sometime.
I do have an FJ60 with seized F in it ... have thought about a 3FE I had left over, but might do a GM engine instead . A turbo on an LLR would be epic. I still kinda like the FJ60 as a balance between the raw FJ40 and the more refined 80/100/120/200. But that’s nutty. It’s pretty spartan in there.
I mentioned engine note... there’s just a rasp to an performance exhaust on a 5 cylinder motor. AUDI taught me that years ago. That little “edge” is scintillating.
